Cake Off Results:
The Fifth Annual Montville Field Day Cake-Off was just as decadent as ever!
First place winner for the Most Beautiful Cake was Bernice Nadler, with a tall white creamy entry adorned with orange slices.
Tying for second place were Ellie Peaslee, with a cake decorated with scenes from the Field Day, and Erin Siladi with a two tiered brown and white cake edged with butter cream piping.
The winner of the Best Tasting Cake this year was Karen York with her Peachy Amaretto Cheese Cake.
Second place winner was Bernice Nadler with her Orange with Lemon Curd Cake.
And third place winner was Jennifer Gunderman-King with her down to the wire Cut-and-Serve-as-Fast-as-You -Can Ice Cream Cake.
Honorable Mention goes to Jeremiah King who was not only the youngest contestant, but also made his Chocolate Raspberry Cake without a recipe, just pure intuition, inspiration, and yumminess! Other Honorable Mentions go to Susan Shell with a flat dark walnutty torte, and to Sharon Hibbard with that wicked decent dreamy pink Guava frosting.
Dishonorable Mention goes to the anonymous cake, reportedly entered by “Duncan Hines”. The cake was packed with coins, meant to bribe the judges into doing what the frosting spelled out, which was to “Pick me, I taste best!” Much to the credit of the serious and experienced judges, and to the integrity of this highly acclaimed cake competition (in the heart of Montville, anyway), the attempted bribery did not pay off for the baker. Sugar coated thanks goes to the self-less cake slicers whose jobs, although sweet, were inordinately sticky.
May the Sweetness prevail!
